IN-PERSON RACE CANCELLED! ALL RUNNERS MOVED TO VIRTUAL!

THE IN-PERSON PUPS & PASTRIES RACE IS CANCELLED!
ALL RUNNERS ARE SWITCHED TO THE VIRTUAL RACE!

Thank you again for signing up for Pups & Pastries and hanging with us this week to give the in-person race the best shot of happening to support Second Chance Pet Adoptions.

Although the forecast yesterday suggested we would have only light wind and rain during the race, with the storm tracking further west than originally predicted the weather has increased to a level we feel would be potentially hazardous to participants, spectators, volunteers, and our crew, including a flood warning that was issued for Wake County at 2:45 AM where much of course is in a low-lying in a run-off area and has an increased risk of falling trees and branches in the wooded areas.

As such, we have made the tough decision to cancel the in-person race this morning. * There is no postponement date available at WakeMed Soccer Park due to other currently scheduled commitments at the venue.

Here's what you need to know to enjoy a great virtual Pups & Pastries:

I. As provided in the posted policy, all registered in-person race participants have already been switched to the virtual race. No other registration changes are available.

II. The virtual race information and instructions have been copied below. Due to this change the deadline to submit your finish time online has been EXTENDED further to 12 PM Noon on Monday September 25th. This gives all runners the opportunity to run in safer conditions after the storm has passed.

III. Also, given this change, the planned in-person race awards (Fleet Feet gift cards and Fit & Able gift codes) will be provided to the virtual race Overall and Age group winners.

IV. Your race packets, including your shirt, finishers medal, and pastry, will be available for pick up between 7:00 - 10:00 AM this morning in the main cross country course parking lot at WakeMed Soccer Park - 201 Soccer Park Dr, Cary, NC 27511. A friend or family member may pick your packet up for you if you are not able to make it.

We were really look forward to seeing you and your pups this morning and are disappointed the weather necessitated this decision so we want to offer you all bonus discount another Fit & Able race this year.

Dear virtual Runners,

Thank you so much for racing with Fit & Able to participate in the VIRTUAL Pups & Pastries.

Due to the weather predicted we are EXTENDING the deadline to submit your finish time to 12 PM Noon on Monday September 25th

If you haven’t already done your race yet here’s everything you need to know to have a great virtual race experience!

In-person race participants who switched to the virtual race after the Thursday September 21st deadline will be able to pick up their packets, including their shirt, finishers medal, and pastry at the in-person race between 7:00 - 10:00 AM at WakeMed Soccer Park (201 Soccer Park Drive, Cary, NC 27511).

If you have any questions, please just reply to this email or contact us at info@fitandable.net

Step 1. Download Your Digital Bib (Optional)

Just like at a live race everyone gets a personalized race bib number! We hope you will take a selfie with it and share it on social media.

You can access your digital bib by logging into your RunSignUp account and under “Upcoming Events” click “View Digital Bib” by Pups & Pastries or downloading it here: %DIGITAL_BIB_LINK%.

Step 2. Download RaceJoy (Optional)

Racing virtually means you need to time yourself with your watch or any tracking app of your choice. We recommend RaceJoy (it’s FREE). Not only does it track your run but can submit your results too.

You can find instructions for how to download and use RaceJoy either in your registration confirmation email or on the main site at https://www.pupsandpastries.com/.

Step 3. Race Virtually!

The best part about racing virtually is that you can run ANYWHERE you want! All you need to do is just run, walk, roll, or stroll the distance you signed up for!

But remember, because there will be no official water stations, directional markings, or volunteers for you on your chosen course. So please, make sure you bring a water bottle, run somewhere familiar, observe road crossings, and carry a phone with you in case of emergencies. Put your safety first!

Step 4. Submit Your Results Online

Once you’ve run your race you MUST submit your results ONLINE! If you used the RaceJoy app to track your run you can submit your results directly from the app with a click of a button.

Otherwise you can submit your results here (click “Submit Virtual Results”): https://runsignup.com/pupsandpastries/results

You may submit your results online any time between 12 PM September 16th - 12 PM September 23rd. We will send reminders to post your results and if you need help please email us at info@fitandable.net.

* Due to the weather predicted for this weekend we are EXTENDING the deadline to submit your finish time to 12 PM Noon on Monday September 25th. *

Once you click “Submit” it may take 1 - 3 minutes for your results to appear on the leaderboard as they get recalculated. BUT remember, your placement may change before the results window closes.

* * * You DO NOT need to send a screenshot of your time or any other results verification. * * *

Step 5. Post a Picture

Immediately after posting your results you will see an option to post photos to the race photo album.

Take a selfie with your bib number on or a picture with anyone you ran with. Or post a screenshot of the course you ran. So, whatever it may be we would love to see something from your virtual race!

BUT ONE LAST THING!

Again, if you have any questions about any of this or need help with anything, please reply to this email or contact us at info@fitandable.net

Have a great virtual race and we appreciate you supporting Fit & Able at Pups & Pastries.

Thank you for racing with Fit & Able.

Mutts & Marshmallows was able to do so much for helping abandoned dogs that we wanted to have another dog-friendly event in the Triangle to support Second Chance Pet Adoptions. Plus, runners really enjoyed the opportunity to race with their four-legged friends and Pups & Pastries is a fun way to help “combat animal homelessness"

Fit & Able loves family fitness and whose four-legged furry friend isn't part of the family? Dog owners are welcome to run with their pups in the Doggie Dash 5K and Doggie Dash 6.5 Mile! For only $10 per pup it will be happy trails for both runners and their dogs. AND, the full $10 dog fee goes to support Second Chance Pet Adoptions!

Give An Animal a Second Chance to Find Love

Second Chance Pet Adoptions is the oldest no-kill animal rescue organization in the Triangle and as of February 2021, over 15,000 lives have been saved by our staff and volunteers. Today, Second Chance operates out of a facility that holds 120 animals and welcomes over 3,500 visitors per year. All of these programs are enabled by the generous support of the community. With your help, every animal can get a second chance to find love! You can learn more about Second Chance Pet Adoption's great work here: https://www.secondchancenc.org/
